O.T. Missing Hiker
now that the park has issued a release, i can report that there is a missing hiker and big search on to find him. the hiker is very experienced and a former ridge runner and is 3 days overdue from a planned hike that included the manway from b.c. 31 to charlies bunion....
so be careful out there and pray that he is found......he is 70 years old and has heart history

Sam--That sounds scary, because as I'm sure you know, that general region of Charlie's Bunion and the Sawteeth is about as rugged as it gets at high elevations in the Park. There are lots of places where a slip spells disaster. One just hopes that maybe it's a broken bone or something like that. Since the guy is experienced, he'll have the right gear, and at least the weather won't be a huge factor. Jim Casada

years ago, when i was 10 feet tall and bulletproof, i went up that manway....it's awful...ya gotta stay left on the cairns....easy to get lost...and last mile pick up 2000 feet......if he got disoriented, it's nasty on the way to dry sluice gap..pray for him

Is there any reports on the status of this man and the search. Down here in Bama we would not here about it. We are keeping him in our prayers and just wanting some kind of update.

Good news for sure. Sounds he is just enjoying the solitude. I am curious about the Porters Creek Manway as well. Probably should have done it when I was younger though. I have been to campsite 31 and it's a steep view up towards the Bunion!

the last mile of the dry sluice manway gains 2000 feet....been following this story at work all day and you could have lifted sugarlands off the ground when the found and identified morgan...they will bring him out tomorrow...they dropped food and a park radio in by chopper this afternoon
