Every day this summer Byron has pushed the green weenie on the fishing report. I was catching some fish on pjeasant tails and princes, and I had a hard time trying what looked like a piece of yarn on a hook, but when my go-to nymphs fell through last week I broke down and tied on a green weenie. Some fishing buddies give me **** for it, but the green weenie is my new go-to summer dropper. The brookis and the bows couldn't get enough today. Thanks Byron.

The "Greenie" has always been very effective for me in early May and mid September..........enjoy it, for it won't last too long...........tight lines

I haven't seen a greenweenie except in pictures, but to me it looks like you could twist a pipe cleaner around a hook and color it green and be good to go.
![]() I know that's going a bit too far..but whenever I see one that's what I think of,a pipe cleaner. Last edited by Rebelsoul; 09-10-2009 at 09:26 AM.. |

How do you guys fish the greenie weenie? Mine tend to drag along the bottom but I am thinking I need to get them off the bottom somehow. (yes this is a serious question)...

I am still a rookie, but on most average size streams I have been dropping it 18-24 inches from a parachute hopper or royal wulff and having great luck.

dragn it on the bottom is never gonna be a bad thing, most would say when nymphin if it ain't tickin the bottom you ain't deep enough.

The Green Weenie has saved the day for me especially in the Summer but it works in the early Spring and late Fall too. The loop on the tail end gives it action. I would not step into a trout stream without one. I fish them weighted down deep and as a dropper. They work!

Yes they do, but I lost my last one the other day when I hooked a big one that broke it off. And when I say a big one I mean a big rhododendron. I have one left but it isn't a beadhead. I will have to make an order from next week along with the new book that seems to be the rave on here. I am eager to get a copy.

Would the good old green weenie do any good the first week of October?
