Default Garner's Ford (Elk River)

I know there's a "Garner's Ford Rd" that leads to the river but do any of you ever fish there and can you park at the end of it?

thanks
God Bless

HighPockets,
I hope that someone knows the answer to your question because I have wondered the same thing.
I actually drove down the road and fished about four or five years ago. The road was barely passable for a standard car at that time but I did get to the river and there was a campsite set up there.
I heard later that TWRA closed the campsite, so never ventured down that way again.
Will someone in the know please respond?
William

Here is an interesting website dated back in 1995 on the Elk River concerning access points back then:

yep, a LONG time ago I went down there but then heard that it was blocked. Maybe they meant blocked for a non-4X4. Hmmmm

The last time we were down there was a little over 2 years ago, we barely got the truck down there, and there was just a picnic table and a fire pit. Nice looking water, and it fished ok. It would be best to ask Tim at the Fly shop in Lynchburg for some more details as to whether its open or not, he will know for sure.

Highpockets, I used to fish Garner's Ford, but my understanding was that it is closed. Last time I was there folks were shooting their guns. Didn't seem to mix with trout fishing. Monk

Garners Ford has been closed for 3 or more years, to much stealing, Rednecks and such, TVA owns the area at the river, but two land owners own the long single track access, they are the ones that closed it down. Usually is a chain across the road, I'll check next week when I go by that area.
