Default Porters Creek This Coming Saturday

I've yet to fish Porters Creek. My grandson (a newbie) and I will have from only 2-5 PM stream time this Saturday, Oct 3. Had in mind Parachute Adams, Elk Hair Caddis, Green Weenie or maybe stripping a Black Wooly Bugger. I would appreciate any suggestions on flies, tactics, etc.

Thanks!
JF

Maybe add some yellow stimis and heavy tellicos in the mix in case the water is still high. There were a lot of golden stoneflies out last weekend. This cold front this week may have changed things though.

There's no fish in Porter's creek. no need to go there

Seriously, it's a beautiful little stream. One of my favorites to fish on that side of the park.

I haven't fished it this time of year. I did fish the larger Middle Prong (the Greenbriar stream running along side the main road up to that stream) last October and did really well with parachute Adams and Hare's Ear nymphs.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Caught no fish, but still have a great, albeit, short visit. My son, grandson and son-in-law got to see a pair of inquisitive deer, history (ruins, cemeteries) and, at about 1.5 miles past the gate, some fairly impressive fresh bear tracks.

Gorgeous day. Magnificent park.

JF,
Glad you had a good time. Too bad about no fish. I have days like that too (far more than I would care to admit). It is a beautiful stream.

Default Porters Creek Bear Track

Sorry Joe
Alot of my pictures didn't come out. I guess that is what happens when you stow your gear for as long as I have. Seems like it has been a year since I got out. And it may have been!
Trip was fun and seeing the bear track was worth the trip. The 2 deer that kept following us was a bit odd, but what can you do.

Great little stream....if you get another chance, park at the gate and walk back down to the bridge to start fishing...I have actually had better luck in the lower sections of this water....caught my first trout there when I was 13 and came back 40 years later and caught a 13" trout....gotta love it....usually fish it in the fall with para adams or a yellow EHC

You've convinced me to give it another go sometime, Rog. Great story!
