Default Tellico Area

Okay, I post this question about twice a year, and the replies are always helpful but they generally do not dictate my travel plans. I am looking at another trip to the Tellico area Friday - Sunday or Monday: Tellico, North, Bald. Has anyone been lately? Are the conditions favorable? Do I need to take more beer than flies? Do I care if I catch fish or is just being there what counts? (Being there is the usual answer since catching fish is a terrible way for me to judge the success of a fishing trip)

Thanks all for the comments I am sure to get.

Buster

You know, I've not looked into this year, but the Delayed Harvest should have began today.

It has fished great all year! With the better flow that we've had all year it seems the stockers are really spread out. You can actually walk and fish on the tellico like a wild stream and not have to just fish the big holes. I have also recently fished above the hatchery and caught tons of little wild rainbows.
As for the stockers I havent been able to beat a bead head pheasant tail in a size 14 and for the wild fish it seems anything will work, but they seemed to really like my elk hair caddis.

good luck

I fished the delayed harvest section from above Turkey Creek to North River
today and did not get a bite. The water was extremely clear. My guide
caught and released a 13 inch rainbow on a bhpt. Then I fished North River
with zero results. I saw several hog tracks in the sand along Tellico River.
The Davy knot came in handy today as I tied on everything in my fly box.

Rivergal,

Fished it yesterday, see my blog. I'm no expert by all means but fishing yesterday was excellent. Maybe the change of barometric pressure had something to do with it. Very nice weather yesterday compared to right now.

I had never been to Tellico, but went yesterday. I was told today that I did not go far enough up stream to get in to the good fishing. I did a little just below and just above Bald River Falls before whatever cold/flu/sickness I am getting got the best of me. I did well fishing a Tellico nymph and a prince nymph. Only got one pic. IK will see if I remember how to post it.

Thanks. I hooked one a bit bigger but tried to manhandle it and let it break off.

The numbers of hogs in the area have really gone up in the last few years. I see more rootings and tracks along North River now than I have in the past 20 years.
