There are a few things you need to know, first of all many or most all companies set the prices for their gear, so a pair of let say Simms boots are gonna cost the same at LRO as at a big box store (bass pro, cabelas etc) secondly when you order that rod reel line and backing leaders and tippet are you gonna be able to assemble them all yourself? Flyfishing is a lot like anything else, it's simple when you are shown how to do things, but can be quite confusing and difficult when you don't know what you are doing. Most would agree that we chase fins with feathers because it is harder, anyone can drown bait, so if it is already the most difficult way to pursue fish it's probably a good idea to enlist the knowledge of a local shop, you learn more & quicker which makes it more fun and the prices are the same.

It looks like its a local shop there in Johnson City, so your best bet is to go in and talk to them first. The only things they have online are rods and reels. Hopefully they carry more than that in their store, if they don't I would be very cautious. You will need more than just a rod and reel...

BK,
Just for what its worth, I wear Chota STL wading boots. They are awsome! They are very well built and stable in the water. When it comes to a quality and comfort in a pair of "shoes" its worth paying a little bit more. I use mine about 10-12 times a year and they get more comfortable each time they go out into the water. LRO carries this brand and they have free shipping. Best of luck to you in all your fishing adventures to come.

I bought a pair of those Chotas at LRO last trip on my way back home,I'm going to try them out next week,I've been wading in jungle boots, the Chotas will surely be much better for the slick rocks.
I bought a TFO 4wt 7'9" rod and have been using it in the mountains and like it but I really want to look into the StCroix products in a 5 wt. 9' length. |

I just noticed that Mahoney's (www.mahoneysports.com) has hodgman waders and boots 50% off on there website. Are those a good deal for beginners?

Buy these Chota's instead: http://littleriveroutfitters.com/sto...cat=646&page=1 They'll last three times as long and fit twice as good. Just look at the way the seams are on the stocking feet on the Hodgman vs the Chotas, not to mention overall stiching and fit...No comparrison.
