Default Straight up/nev2l8

I like a straight upstream cast, but since it lines the fish,I start close and increase distance in increments of 1 leader length.Know what you mean by close takes.Got into a hatch on the Gunnison and had trout taking olives 'tween the knees!

When you are saying 'side roll cast,' is there a chance you're doing something like a Snake Roll? Here's a photo of what I am talking about:

Snake roll casts are great for picking up line at the end of a drift and shooting it 90 degrees from your position (i.e. back to the top of a run). You can do it all in one motion without having to work your way around the clock face with backcasts.
