Does anyone have any suggestions for tying blue winged olives in the emerger, dun, or spinner stages?

These are a couple of parachute styles I use. With a parachute you can vary the amount and color of the hackle and the tailing materials to match the stages of bugs you mentioned. |

I like to use (Blue Wing Olive) colored biots for the body wrap. You can get them at LRO
. *Sorry BlueRaiderFan; I posted without reading your reply fully...This is pattern I have been using and it has been good to me. Plus, it is easy to tie up. ![]() ![]()

Biots...hadn't thought about that one. I have used a green quill. Don't know if it works, but I've tied a couple and will see later this year.

BlueRaiderFan,
Cool! If you get a chance; post a picture! I am always looking for variations in the BWO. I think I have a pretty good pupa pattern.

Yeah, I need to work on my pupa's. My camera went out the other day, so I can't get a decent picture, but will try in the day light using the camera on my phone.

Sorry about getting back to you late. Iwas on my move to Colorado and just got the computer set up and have had to fight the wife and children for time on it.
I have used green quills for the body but have found on ultra picky fish the dark olive to be much more effective. Pick one up some time a stripped peacock herl will sometimes be a better match. Also forgot to mention, with BWOs there really is'nt a spinner fall. the females move to shoreline vegetation that leads into the water and crawl down to deposit there eggs. So for their spinners a little olive soft hackle is killer. Have a Good 'Urn, bones |
