I like your advice, Jim! I'll probably end up bringing it along and not catching squat, but I know if I leave it at home I'll probably sit around camp thinking, "**** that water looks fishy..."

I think the thing for me to do is leave the rod tucked away in a safe place while we're floating and then try my luck in the afternoon.

This is my first trip down the BSF, and I'm PUMPED.
I wouldn't float it without it, more then likely. Leave it in the case, if it is needed then it is there, if not use it to beat back the copperheads.

It is a spectacular piece of river, and even if no fish are caught the scenery is worth the trip.

Bring back some pics, and kill some beers.

Just got to the office about 15 minutes ago, and I'm planning to leave here around 3:30. Everything is packed and ready to roll. Now the biggest decision left is whether to take 24 or 36 beers...

Codman, thanks for the portage advice. I packed a long section of rope, and I'm planning to attempt to drift the boat through the portage area, unless it looks super sketch.

Cool

Well, Riveroo 2010 was awesome! Didn't manage to catch much besides a buzz, although I did hook a small bluegill that managed to get off the hook. I really only fished for about 20 minutes before returning to the shore and the coldbeers.

We didn't have much flow, but the weather and company were great. We did end up flippin the canoe a couple times, but it was all taken in stride (luckily for me!). Can't wait to go back next year!

if you like d the BSF lower trip you should float the gorge above. It's about 10 times as pretty although a good guide is required. Not that the whitewater is all that hard but the undercuts and multiple sieves could lead a to a fatality for someone who didn't understand or no where to go.

Glad you had a good time
