Made it out this morning to an area that I really enjoy. I had intentions of fishing Elkmont this morning, but then figured that it would probably be quite crowded. So, I switched plans and went to a stream that I don't recall ever seeing another person fishing at. I commonly ask myself why I don't venture over to the various streams around Greenbrier more often, and I remembered today why. My thoughts on Gatlinburg remain the same today as in previous years, and I consider it a necessary evil to have to endure the traffic en-route to some very good fishing.
Fished from 8 till 11:30 today, never more than about 300 yards from my car, and the fishing was productive throughout. Caught fish on a variety of flies with most success on Para Adams, Yellow Stimis, and BHPT. It took me a while to get my reaction time back to normal after mostly fishing the Clinch for the past couple months, but once I got that figured out things really picked up. Next time I will have to walk farther up the trail before getting in the water, but that is easier said than done. ![]() My most productive run ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

No need to go through Gatlinburg, unless you have business that way. For a much better route take TN 316 through Pittman Ctr.

Hans,
That is how I go, and it is usually a pretty quick route. However, apparently there was a rod-run of sorts in G-burg and every route I tried got me behind joy riders. ![]() You are correct though, that is typically a much quicker route than going through the heart of the beast. By the way, it is good to see you back on the board again.

Nice job Travis and thanks for sharing with those of us who were fishing deprived today.

Thanks Grouseman.
Sam, I didn't realize Gatlinburg does not host rod runs. Interesting. Is that because of a lack of a venue large enough or some sort of city ordinance? I always thought they both had their equal share since I see so many of them in Gatlinburg, but must just be the joy riders out and about.

Travis,
We ought to hit that gorge one of these days. Of course, with my bad back, bad knees and general misery, you might have to carry me out of there. LOL. Didn't do any fishing this weekend. I was supposed to do a hike up in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. We chickened out due to threat of storms. It was probably for the better anyway. This humidity and hot temps make me want to do nothing. |

too many complaints, not enuff physical space, and the rod-runners are famous for being non-spenders. typical rod run visitor comes with 12 cases of beer, a loaf of bread, and a pound of bologna and hits the fast food places for mayo and mustard....and leaves with no beer and half a pound of bologna. only people make money off them are event sponsors and motels...not enuff space in gatlinburg and the burg finally caved in to complaints
