I was in Michaels and Hobby Lobby this past weekend, and they have craft furs, plastic beads (for segmented bodies), 2mm foam, marabou, pheasant tail, peacock herl, Antron (dubbing), chenille of all types, etc. My wife wondered what I wanted to look at, and got excited when I told her about the materials. It is a great place to look, and see what you can find.

I found I had to double sock individual feathers in the dryer or they would work their way through one sock. For necks any old tube sock tied at the end will work just fine. As to the materials at craft stores. Most feathers and fur I have priced cost more and are of lower quality than you will find at fly shops. That being said most quality salmon fly tiers (which I am not) buy from suppliers who hand pick product for them. |
