So, my fellow teacher friends of mine always take a backpacking trip for fall break. We've been to numerous places in the park but they wanted to do the Elkmont area this year. This is also the first backpacking trip I've taken since I've picked up my new hobby/addiction of fly fishing. Spent Sunday night @ #30 then moved to #23 for Monday night. It was a great time of year to be out there.

I loved fishing around #30. I caught several keepers just around the campsite. Its really nice area and the leave were almost at peak around there. At #23, I didn't catch a single rainbow but I did manage to get 2 keeper size specs along with a bunch of smaller ones.

Everyday out there looked like this.

I caught some of these.

But more of these

Lunch spot on Goshen Prong trail

My wife looking for salamanders

This was only my second time fishing in the park. I don't know if it was beginners luck or if it is always this good but I stopped counting at 10 fish. I only used two flies...an orange stimulator and a greenie weenie. It was kinda funny because my first cast in my first attempt to use a sub-surface lure (GW) I caught one.

I had so much fun pulling in these fish. I now know that the bigger the fish, the bigger the thrill but I'm gonna be pretty content with the journey to the spot and having fun while catching the little ones.

Great pics and nice report. I haven't been to 23 since they first reopened Goshen Prong. Beautiful area and good fishing to boot!

Sometimes bigger fish don't produce the bigger thrill. Congratulations on a great trip!

Nice trip and great fishing! My invitation must have been eaten by a carnivorous computer bug.
I was hoping to camp in the park this fall but family issues took precedence. Maybe next spring?

Look at all the leaves that have already fallen. That did not take long.

Excellent pictures and thanks for the post.
