I was using my Nikon D40, with a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX lens, and a Nikon SB-400 flash. All pics were handheld except for the stream shots. I know some people think that the Sigma's, Tamron's, and Tokina's are cheap. However, this Sigma scored very comparable to the Nikon 17-55mm, that is well over $1000, in every review I read. All my other lenses are Nikon, but I use this one probably 80% of the time. I highly recommend it to anyone searching for something in that range.

I agree....I have a Tamron used on my D90 that went to Africa with me and it was a terrific lens......that f/2.8 of yours is the ticket, can't go wrong with alot of glass....
