Cicadas
I've been tying up cicadas the last couple of evenings. Lots of the bugs around so I'm sure the fish are noticing in the areas that have them. I've searched around for cicada patterns and found some good ones but still interested in more ideas. Anyone have any good patterns they would care to share? Pictures are encouraged...

Tie them with spent wings and orange legs. They land on the water with their wings out.

I've tied all mine stealth bomber style. You can still add the staight pin eyes which are very prominate on the real bug. I also agree with the splayed wings thing. Good observation with the real bugs.

Here is a link to a good pattern on Hatches magazine. The ones I'm seeing around here do not have much orange underneath. I fished an all black bodied one yesterday and had only one fish I showed it to refuse to take it. They do have very distinct orange legs.

No eyes on mine, and it worked great. When the trout sees that distinctive shape and those big ole wings, it comes for it. The fact that most of these bugs buzz like crazy on the water means a little twitching of the fly is a good thing. They are winding down, so I suggest you show them what you've tied. You'll have 13 years to come up with the perfect pattern.

cicada bombers
I'm like Lynn. I enjoy fishing stealth bombers and the cicada bomber is in my fly box.
