Pictures from Keys trip

Well I finally made my first trip to the keys. It was a quick trip, with Sunday and Monday being fishing days and back to SC on Teusday. Sunday was a productive day with my friend Larry landing a nice bonefish, and me landing a permit and a redfish. Monday was tough with wind and weather. Here are the pictures:

Overall a successful trip considering neither one of us had ever fished in the keys, nor fished for bonefish or permit. Had we had a little cooperation from the weather on Monday, we would have had a better chance.

John great fish. What kind of leader were you using, Lenghth and lbs tippet wise. Heading to the vrgin Islands for vac. and a little fishing. Great report, I'm jealous.

I was using a 10ft rio leader, I think it was 14lb with some 13 lb tippet.

Any time you catch fish on the flats of the keys is a success. Their bonefish can be the toughest on the planet. I do however regret to inform you that the Permit is a Jack Crevalle, a hard fighting cousin of the permit with a less fussy diet.

You're right! Look at the yellow fins, and the shape of the dorsal fin. Also, the head. A permit has a bone white color all over the body. No offense to anyone, but they do look similar, but with these differences.

Thanks for the info....I had just gotten back on to make that specific point about it actually being a Jack, and see that you guys beat me to it. Thanks for making the correction for me. What I really wished I had done was hold the fish away from the fins and the gill plate that would have shown the black spot.
