What makes the rod so special?

I know there is a big market for antique rods, but there must be something extra special to fetch such prices. I saw the KY manufacturer. Is it just super rare, or just such extraordinary engineering?

About the same reason a Stutz Bearcat, Duesenberg, '65 Mustang, or a '62 Corvette command a lot of money at the auctions. Classic, rare, or outstanding quality are the marks of a classic. If I had kept my '66 Corvette, I could sell it now and pay off my house.

This is considered to be one of the first modern reels. The Kentucky Reel paved the way for most of our modern-day reel designs. Also; these reels were made famous by the World's Fair and few famous fishing books back in the day.
