Well...thanks for the kind words buzz. But in reality, about 9 out of 10 flies I tie are garbage. And sometimes the lawnmower battered roadkill flies are the ones that fish like the most.

I had hoped that Grouseman77 would come around and join in on this, but I think he is busy chasing 2 dogs up the side of some mountain lookin for those birds that sound like a helicopter.

I would love to get in on a swap like this one but I have not found any time to get behind the vise. I owe some folks flies to replace the trash that I submitted for the first swap I participated in a few years ago.

Couple more days chasing birds, then back to house shopping, baby prep, fishing, etc.

Granny, I've got tons of assorted feathers (quail, grouse, pheasant & woodcock) for experimenting...

Default Time to Tie

Ok Guys, we are officially "on the clock". Since there are now six of us (welcome TroutmanBrook), we should each tie 25 flies. That way everyone gets 5 of each.

please send me an email at petecz@charter.net and I will send you my mailing address, for your completed flies.

Put mine in the mail today. Let me know if you don't see them in a day or three.

I counted last night, and I had only tied 14 flies. I am going to have to get to get crackin on finishing these.

My flies are all tied up. I think my fly is a perfect example of a "guide fly". I will be throwing in a few more flies for each of you swappers, because all 24 of these flies were tied in under 30 minutes. The recipe is as follows. does hook and thread count as a material?

This fly is super simple to tie, just dress hook, attach chenille at back wrap back up to hook eye, bring chenille forward tie off, and finish.

on the clinch, I have had much success with this simple little fly. My most successful method of fishing this fly is dead drifting under an indicator. I usually use this in a dropper rig, with the scud as my lead fly (bottom) with a heavier fly on top (or some splitshot). There should be a little over a foot between your top fly, or splitshot, and the scud. This allows the scud to achieve some great lifelike movements.

san juan scud
Hook: TMC 3761 size 18 (or any size 18 hook)
Thread: I used UTC 70 RustyBrown, but Orange (morning low light), or light
blue (bright sunny) are good too.
Body: ultra chenille tan
