Default Saying Hello

Just wanted to take a minute to say hello and introduce myself. I've lived in the Asheville area my whole life with exception to my duration at UNC in Chapel Hill. I just graduated from there, and am back in Asheville for the time being. I suppose that I can accredit my older brother for my own passion (and sometimes frustration) of casting flies to wild trout. He and his friends began inviting me on multi-day backpacking/fishing trips to the Smokies when I was about 11, and since I've been hooked. It seems that most of my Smokies memories consist of waking up early summer mornings from our creekside campsight, finding a new stretch of water, fishing until sundown, and then doing it all over again the next day. It's likely that there are very few stretches of Deep Creek that I haven't fished from Jenkins Place to Poke Patch. Once again, I hold my brother and his obsession with this "sacred" creek accountable. Deep Creek, as my home water, certainly remains a special place for me, but I also find Forney Cr to be one of my all time favorites.

My brother doesn't fish much anymore now that he's married and has two kids (as well as his friends). I still try and uphold the Smokies fishing tradition as often as I can, although I must admit that I fish Pisgah much more often.

Just wanted to say that I enjoy all of your posts, as well as seeing what's going on in the Tennessee side of the park. The GSMNP truly is a special place, and historical insight and story-telling from people such as Jim Casada (hello) make it that much more intriguing.

Thanks everyone,

Welcome Eric! I love Asheville and I have thought about moving there often.

Use the Search Feature and catch up on some good topics.

Looking forward to hearing more from you in the future...
