got wife talked into doing a backcountry camping/fishing trip..looks like around the 4th thinking 24 or 30..would 30 have less people camping there around the 4th.or should we stick with a reserve site if we can get one.thanks

Rog 1 is right. The distance from the road or trail exponentialy decreases the number of people in any area.

For the 4th of July expect anyone and everyone. On that date you will have some folks who, on a whim will go. Reservation or not they will go.
Luck will have to be on your side if any campsite you pick is not packed.

thanks for the input,both of us are looking forward to it..havent fly fished in years so this should be exciting to say the least..been trying different meals testing taste and equpment..figured the long weekend would give us time to recover before going back to work...

Usually true...but, he is talking about a holiday weekend. I've cut a few 4th of July / Memorial Day / Labor Day trips short due to overcrowded sites...and I'm not talking about the cake walks.

It depends on where you go, I was at 95 last year on the 4th of July weekend, and there were only 2 other people there, and we are less than 2 miles from the road. Those 2 people were only there Saturday night, Sunday night we had the place to ourselves...like normal.

Jason and JayB, I find your comments most interesting. We don't go anywhere on holiday weekends due to the crowds. We went to a state park when living in Louisiana many years ago. People were so thick you couldn't stir them with a stick. We stay at home on holiday weekends and go out at a later time. Better to have two days of enjoyment than three of chaos.

I agree 100%. I completely avoid all parks and tailwaters on holiday weekends. Some of my buddies make fun of me for it. However, I would rather not be in a bad mood because of a few morons and just stay at home with the family.
