Default Tying Challenge: Week 4
Ok everyone! Lots of good flies so far but I would still like to see more participants. I know there are more fly tiers out there so jump in and share your stuff! This week we are going to do Blue-winged Olive patterns, dry or nymph or both. Let's see both mountain patterns and tailwater patterns if you use something different in each place...

  • I like to bend the eye upward when tying this pattern.

Shawn, why do you like to bend the eye upwards? Just how the fly sits on the water? Great patterns by the way. Love that nymph pattern as it looks nice and easy but definitely still killer...

It helps to put the body down in the film once the hackle has settled in the water. Basically; keeps it from leaning right or left and accentuates the body line. It is amazing how many dry patterns actually rest sideways, upside down, etc.

Olesmoke,

I tie a BWO biot emerger very similar to yours. Fish on the SoHo go crazy for it. I may try to tiie one up tonight after I get the kids to bed.

Nice dry too!

Nice patterns Shawn and Ole Smoky one I'll have to look thru my box in the next couple days and see if I can find something worth photographing.

OK where is everyone hiding ? There is box loads of talent here and it only takes 3-4 minutes to tie a bug.Here yea go a little tungsten jewelry to get it down to the bigguns........ Im waiting.....

hook:size 18 with a bead
bead: tungsten to match your hook size
thread: olive
tail & wing: hungarian partridge
body: olive biot
thorax: olive / brown blend
wing pad: black biot
one of my Holston favorites
