Just a few pictures from up North chasing pike earlier this year. No big boys this trip although I did have a couple of nice fish on that cut off my fly. Half the fun though is experiencing the strike and then you never really know what a big northern is going to do once it feels that hook in its mouth... It was just a great time being out again on the lakes and ponds that I grew up fishing. Ohh, and the bass fishing wasn't too shabby either...
![]() I will always take a nice smallie on the fly whenever I can, regardless of what I'm fishing for... ![]() ![]() Another nice bass that nailed a big popper that I was throwing... ![]() The only northern this year worth showing off. Still a lot of fun even though he is just a little guy... ![]() Tight Lines, Last edited by tnflyfisher; 12-23-2012 at 12:10 PM.. |

So cool!!! Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping to chase pike this next spring and summer in Colorado and can't wait! Also looking into the tiger musky situation. Care to share any fly patterns for pike?

Nice pics I love bass on a fly. I have never done pike or Muskie but I know a guy who has and he said it is a load of fun. I hope to try it one day

I stayed on a lake in New York and when I wasn't on the trout streams,I would fish White Lake. It was full of small pike, yellow perch, hige bluegill and both large and smallmouth bass. I think I had a better time there than on the West branch.
Great report and nice pics. Smallie looks like its in really good shape. Lynn |

DK - You are looking at one of the best patterns to use on big pike...
![]() ![]() And yes... this has happened to me before. It is really quite an experience!!! ![]() Variations on this fly regarding size and color = my #1 surface/sub-suface pattern for pike... ![]() Also, they love anything with rabbit. And for strictly below the surface, with sinking lines, clouser minnows big and flashy will do you well... Tight Lines, |

tnflyfisher,
Where up north were you? I spend 2 weeks every summer musky fishing up in Northern WI on the Chippewa Flowage. Never went for muskies on a fly rod but pike are so such fun to catch on a fly rod. ![]() |
