A friend and I are planning a trip to Western Montana in mid May (hopefully pre runoff). We think we may float the Missouri, hike into Bear Trap Canyon of Madison, fish a spring creek, and then see what else is fishable. Any suggestions on any of these locations or perhaps suggestions for others?

I spoke with the guys at the Caddis Flyshop in Butte this morning and they are at 93% on their snow pac...They said they they can (and do) get alot of their snow from March on thru til June........ We always go in mid July.... have for 8 years now...... going in May might be somewhat risky....if you do go you will be close to the Ruby which is a fantastic fishery....there are so many out there you can't go wrong about anywhere you go....... there is so much FANTASTIC water out there it would take several seasons to fish it all....... best of luck to you.

Thanks for the info, everyone. This time of the year is the only time we can make it, so we're going for it! I'm excited regardless of water conditions!
