Default Hazel Creek 9/19 9/22

Sorry for the delay in getting this out, I have been digging out from the work I left. My friend Doug and I arrived at the Bone Valley site around noon on Thursday, set up camp and were off to do what we came for. We fished Bone Valley Thursday afternoon and many fish were brought to hand but mostly small browns and bows. The tail of almost every pool brought a strike to the Neversink Caddis. We were both pretty tired so we called it a day so we could get up early on Friday. Friday was more of the same and I caught plenty of small rainbows and browns. It wasnt until I got back to camp around 6 that I figured out that I had been fishing behind Doug all day so I went out for a few more downstream of camp. All of the fish were bigger than Id caught all day. Finally in the last pool I caught something with a little more muscle.

And then the last cast of the day this one fell for the green weenie.

It rained about 2.5 inches Friday nite and into Saturday, blowing out the creek. We tried to fish a little but chickened out. I would say that it was up between 2 and 3 feet at the crest. We even walked up almost to 82, but the water was still way too high for my liking. Still a great trip even though we lost a day of fishing. I wish I lived closer. The guys at the marina said they were going to draw down the lake next year to work on the dam so they wont be running the shuttles like they have.

If you have the time, my partner made a video of the trip.

Great report, wish I could have been their with you guys. Seems that you always find those nice fish on Hazel.

Next time you will need to tell me how to catch the big ones.

Thanks for the report.

Nice fish! On my list of places to go while I can.

It is Doug's go pro. It is one of the earliest models but I don't know which one. We had to pull over the truck after watching that judee chop video. It kept us going through the saturday rain. I hope you have a great trip. I assume you can still go even with all the antics in in our capitol. BTW, be careful of the yellow jackets in their stream side ground nests. I stood on one for a couple of seconds and got stung 4 times. dropped my rod and fell in the creek trying to escape. Good thing I am not allergic.

I seem to get pretty lucky on Hazel but I'd be glad to show you where that fish lives. It isn't too hard to figure out if you read between the lines. I was suprised it was a rainbow though. We talked about heading down one more time (probably to Little River) before it gets too cold. Maybe November. If I can get away I will let you know.
