Talking Grate Day

Wednesday morning was still pretty cold. You could see snow on all the nearby mountain tops. The water, while I didn't get a temp was much colder than usual

Ice was forming on the stick in the water, as well as in my guides

Breck, I tried the gonga for a minute, but flows were WAY too low unless didymo was what I wanted to catch

Had to go the other side of the spectrum and throw size 20 and smaller.

While I had my own idea of what flies might work, Scooter at the local fly shop really put us on the right flies

Brownie on a dry

And some of these guys

The dry dropper was paying off. I was losing flies right and left till I switched from 7x to 5X but was still happy as could be

This guy reminded me of the size fish I typically catch in the Smokies

Talking

This was the prettiest Rainbow color I had seen in a while. I just wish I hadn't screwed up the shot

And my long and lanky ending to a grate day

4 out of 6 days on the river

Been a good week
