I don't understand all the hostility on such a simple question.

Here I'll try to help out because I am interested in such things.

Based on the picture and behavior you described, but it looks to me to be a water beetle larvae of some kind.

If you still have it, you can bring it up to Maryville College and we will look at it for you.... I'm still an amateur aquatic entomologist but under a microscope I could probably figure it out more definitively.

It's the larvae of a roller. Phanaeus vindex. You learned a little something today.

I too dont have idea why I was taken as being mean or anything of the sort. I myself only wanted to help.

I beleived it was a common bug larva, but my thought was taken with a abrupt no it isnt.

taking it all in stride I only mention that the question seemed strange to be asking in a fourm for smoky mountian fishing fourm. If it was posted in a forum called, "what kind of bug is this that I found in a old swimming pool somewhere on earth" I would understand.
