Question A nymphing question

I fished yesterday in the Cosby campground section a little up the low gap trl.
I have never fished with just a nymph. How do you do that in very small pocket water? Do you still use an indicator? Or is that dry fly territory?

That's some pretty small water. You would probably be best off just dabbling a dry

If you like water like that you should have no problem finding solitude in the Smokies

It's interesting as I keep an eye out for bears. Lol. It certainly is fun and scenic. So far I do enjoy bigger water . But I'm trying to find good spots that are not too pressured.

If the fish are willing to rise to dry flies then fish those, but there will be a lot of days where fishing a nymph "highstick" style without an indicator will bring many more trout to the net. The trick is to watch the end of your line/leader for twitches or hesitations signaling a take and to get a good drift...
