I just saw something on this as well. Sad news. Does anybody have any specifics?

This is about all I know, plus a comment that some dead fish are being found downstream:

I searched a little last night for news on this, but found nada. Could it be there's nothing significant?

Or they are tied into the system

Seems to me most things don't get reported.

Speaking as someone who was responsible for the group at Eastman that pumped cooling water from the Ft. Patrick Henry Lake tailwater (South Fork of the Holston) and worked within the larger division that included wastewater treatment, I can assure you such incidents are being reported to local, state and federal authorities... not just to the local media. If perfectly clear cooling water is discharged at a temperature even a fraction of a degree higher than that agreed to in the contract with TVA, that gets reported. By the way, the company pays TVA handsomely for the assurance of an adequate intake pool volume as specified. For more information, please refer to http://www.eastman.com/Pages/Unplanned_shutdown.aspx. It states in part that "Community inquiries should be directed to 423-229-2273 (CARE)." To my way of thinking "community" includes those of us who enjoy the lower South Fork and the Holston River proper.
