Default Gatlinburg  - Are they stocking this winter

I' ve heard, from a not to reliable a source, that they have stocked large trout at points throughout the city this winter. Can anyone verify this before I make the trip down.

Woody, Welcome to the board. It is my understanding that Gatlinburg stocks frequently during the winter. At this time the regulations require catch and release fishing unless things have changed. Since Gatlinburg turned the river into a delayed harvest fishery it has become very popular for winter fishing. I know a lot of people use egg patterns and nymphs. I hope someone else, who has more experience over there will answer your question.

Woody

You do need a special permit to fish in Gatlinburg. *It is license number 99 for one day for residents and non-residents and costs $2.50; this in conjunction with a Tennessee hunt/fish with a trout stamp. *Residents and non-residents can also get a three day permit that works in conjunction with your hunt/fish license - it is license number 96 and costs $6.50.

Non-residents can also get permit that will allow you to fish ONLY IN GATLINBURG for one day, license number 97 and it is $10.50.

Be aware that from December 1 through March 31, Gatlinburg has special regulations. *Those regulations require the use of single hook artificial flies, spinners and spools. *Although a single dropper fly with a single hook is permitted; possession of bait is prohibited.

It is catch and release only.

Oi, I hope this helps - I even had to read the blasted book....

Feel free to give us a call at 877/448-3474 should you have any questions...

Thanks,

Paula

Thanks Paula, I trust I can pick all these permits and licences up in your shop. Being from out of state with only the weekend a one stop shop is important. I've never fished through through the city before. If I get tired of all the spectators I ll give the Roaring Fork a try on this trip.

Thanks
