I'm planning a trip to Pigeon Forge, next weekend Feb 24th. I originally wasn't planning on fishing, but I saw the post on Abrams and now I've got the fever. Any other suggestions on cold weather fishing locations?
I've fished the smokies quiet a bit in the warmer months, but I've never tried winter fishing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Bamajohn,
The fishing will be very dependant on recent weather. If there have been a few days of warm weather, you will likely find good fishing in many of the same places you do well during the summer. Your main goal will be to find sections of stream that have had the sun hitting the water for awhile. Abram's is really a good bet though as it generally runs a little warmer. Just remember that winter fishing tends to be more about the experience than catching lots of fish. You'll probably have a lot of water to yourself which won't happen as much during the warmer weather. Be sure and check with LRO for the most recent info. David

You could also try the DH there in Gburg.
DH fish might just east some ultra flashy fish attracting flies, or some big mouthful type patterns. Otherwise, I'd imagine the fishing will be slow with snow melt keeping the streams cold. |
