Default Man stabbed at Abrams Creek Campground

Sounds like it was an argument between campers, they said alcohol was involved

They probably have an article at knoxnews

I read it on the front page of the Knoxville News Sentinel

what kind of trouble willl one get into if caught carrying a gun in the park, makes me wonder if it is worth the trouble one would get into. This is the 2nd murder in the park this year

Sounds like the issue isn't the presence or absence of weapons, but rather it is alcohol, perhaps egos, and stupidity.

An old quote does come to mind I believe it orginated with a lawman from centuries past who declared, "An armed society is a polite society!".

With all of that said, what a shame that folks would resort to such a terrible means to settle a dispute!

If I could Just "pile-on":

Guns and alcohol don't mix.

I've asked the same question in past although, several people took offense to my suggestion that my fishing vest was getting a holster. We were fishing the opposite end of Abrams, near the foothills, once upon a time, when some"good old boy" approached my friend talking about how the park took his family's land away, and how we were fishing on what <USED TO BE> his family's land....he didn't seem too welcoming and might have crossed the line into the "slighty threatening zone."

I didn't see a moonshine still in the background, or anything like that, but if anyone is interested, I understand that corn whiskey makes a nice gasoline additive:

I have camped at the Abrams Creek Campground with my family and it can get kind of noisy at night with the drinking and partying that goes on. I am not sure there is a full time ranger there anymore but it might help to have one there.

One question, is there any trout activity on the lower Abrams Creek?? I have fished there before but didn't really catch much, but the few I caught were pretty good size. I don't know if the water temp gets a little too high this low for the trout?

Thanks,

Interestingly, neither the slayer nor the victim were "tourons." Go figure. :-?

Tellicohomes-

My experience there has been like yours. Low numbers, but a fair percentage are 12"+. I usually do the day-hike up to Little Bottoms, but I've caught a few in the campground area.

Just to stay on topic --- I don't go there on weekends, so I haven't been there when anyone's been stabbed yet.
