Default Hello from the Buckeye State!

Hello fellow fly fishers. I am from Columbus, Ohio but still manage to get down to the Smokies 5-6 times a year. In fact, I will be fishing the Smokies this weekend. I tried to get a campsite at Elkmont but it was full so I am staying at Cosby. This will be the first time I have fished Cosby and Greenbrier so I am looking forward to it. I have fished many streams in the park (both TN & NC) and my favorite areas are the West Prong of the Little above 18 and Cataloochee. I have not found a bad one however because they are all beautiful even if I do not catch anything. I am looking forward to talking to all of you on the message board.

Tight lines

Doug Chamberlain

Bald Eagle, Welcome to the message board and thanks for joining. You picked a good weekend to be here. Bring some warm clothing, it's going to get cold at night.

Buckeyetrouter I fish mostly on the Mad. I have caught a lot of nice trout, but the scenery is certainly not what I enjoy. But stuck in the middle of Ohio it is the only place I can get out and wet a line. During the winter with streamers is when I catch most of my big browns. I am going to retire in a few years and plan to retire in the Adirondacks so I spend some time up there every year. There is some beautiful streams there with a lot of big trout.

on the mad I usually fish the section behind the fish farm located on rt 68 or the bridge area just s.w. of Urbana. I havn't had the best success but figure it is the way I am fishing it. What are your better flies, do you do better on top or with nymphs......I did tail hook a carp there once and that was a great fight, other than that I've only caught small browns......
