Just fishing in the rain

As it rains,I am at work and day dreaming about ff. Just wanted to see how many others like to ff in the rain? For some reason,maybe that I am the only one on the stream or that the overcast turns on the browns feeding action, I relish a rainy day of FF.

Very short story.
Was on the white River last year(Bull Shoal's) and you guessed it(raining).
Had a teriffic day of brown and bow action and no one else in sight. Stopped counting at about 40. (what a great river)! Anyhow, any others out there like to brave the elements? <////>

for me it's all about beating the elements..rain, snow, ice.....

several years ago I purchased my fiance her first pair of neopreme waders. She was so ready to try them that we went to the local river (Auglaize River)only to find that the river had been frozen over and was not breaking up...we spent the afternoon in the snow, pushing ice chunks down stream......it's all about the elements

I like fishing whenever I have the time. I've fished in rain, sleet, snow, very strong winds, lightning, etc. It is just a part of the experience in my opinion. Fishing in the rain can be very good and other times it can be a little slow, it just depends. Some of my best days have been during or just after a good rainstorm!

As long as it's not pouring rain or snowing so hard you can't see, adverse conditions can present the angler with a memorable day. Blue wing olives in a drizzle or a light snow.....thats great. The fact that a lot of people don't want to deal with these conditions will leave us die-hards on the stream by ourselves.....sometimes. Being a die-hard waterfowler for many years before I started flyfishing taught me that to persevere the elements will give you a better than average day....most of the time. Being caught in a boat in a lightning storm is a different type of element.

hey dryfly......I remembered another one that is that same wonderful feeling......wing shooting when those great big ( fifty cent pc size) snow flakes are falling....it's those time that you feel you are right where God wanted you to be on that particular day....
wow...what a bunch of memories

Hey Russ.....have you done any wingshooting when those large snow flakes are falling.....it really is an incredible feeling.....

I love fishing in the rain as well and i can't wait until i get to fish in the snow! I think that for me, although the fish do seem to bite more, it has more to do with the fact that all the fair weather fisherman leave and it's just me and mother nature with the sound of rain hitting all around me. There's just something about that sound that i love . I never feel more at peace than i do during those times, it's just too bad that they seem to be far and few between.

Of course, it may have something to do with that nice, new, expensive rain jacket i bought haha

Anyone choose to fish in the park today? You'd get your wish!

Earlier, i was checking out some water levels of different streams here in nc and some of them have reached very, very high, while some still haven't peaked yet. The Ocanaluftee, over the past 30 years, has averaged about 182 cubic feet of discharge per second (i think that's how you say it, i know it was 182 though ), however sometime today it was up to almost 3000 at it's peak! That's alot of water

At least the fishing this weekend will be good. Looks like sunday will be a dreary day.................can't wait!

One of my most memorable days in the park happened two years ago in April. I was fishing Abrams Creek and the fishing was slow. I was almost back to the parking area when it really started to snow! I continued to fish even though I could hardly see the opposite bank and all of a sudden the fish started hitting like mad. It continued until the snow stopped in about 15 minutes. I went back to the same area the next day and didn't get a strike. Quite an experience!
