Default New Podcast for Smokies Anglers

Hey everyone -

It's been a much longer hiatus than I had planned but I am back on schedule with the podcasts. This week's show features Steve Moore, head fishery biologist of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Steve fills us in on the successful efforts to return brook trout fishing to the Park, why you should fish for them, and how the Service hopes to continue to grow the brook trout's habitat in the Park, as well as how you can help. He even alludes to a soon-to-be-opened stream where the brookies run up to 14"!

If that's not enough, Steve discusses the Park's surprisingly large brown trout -- up to seven pounds -- as well as how you can up your chances of catching them. Based partly on Steve's information, I tipped a good angler off to a spot in the Park last weekend and he was able to produce a 19" brown; an enormous accomplishment for that water.

After the interview with Steve, stick around for the streamside essay from our two-week ramble around Yellowstone National Park.

Also, tune in next week (yes, actually NEXT WEEK) for my interview with Conway Bowman, who is a San Diego-based mako shark fishing specialist. He talks about getting a Nantucket Sleigh Ride in a kayak from a shark bigger than his boat, as well as the potential for a Californian bonefish fishery!

Zach

PS - Byron, I took all your advice to the letter and Fly Fisherman still snapped up the story. I am sending you a proof and a load of pictures.

Zach,

Steve Moore called me and said he couldn't reach you at your number. I guess he dialed it wrong. He really wanted to talk to you. He's a great guy who knows fisheries biology probably better than anyone in the country. I've also had the pleasure of fishing with him a few times and he is an excellent fly fisherman. I'm glad you two guys connected. It should be a great story. And, thanks for sending me new pictures. Yours are the best and I appreciate them so much. I left the photos on the top of this message board an extra day because I felt they worked well as a group. I love the campfire scene. Stay in touch.

Byron

Podcast feeds are picky and I had a few technical difficulties, but the podcast should be a-ok now. If you went to it yesterday and weren't able to get the new episode, please try again.
