Another first, the SoHo
After trying the Clinch recently for the first time, I wanted to fish the South Holston. Today was the day and it was a good one too. The weather was excellent and the fish were active. I met up with Leinart in Knoxville and we drove up to the river. We got there just as the generators were shut off and fished as the water fell out quickly. I soon had a good fish on which turned out to be my best of the day. It was a rainbow which took a zebra midge. Minutes later, I had an even heavier take but the 6x tippet popped before I could get the fish on the reel. We explored a bit downstream and the fish stayed active through the day. Late in the day near sunset, the surface activity was absolutely phenomenal. The river was just boiling with fish taking apparently microscopic midges. Before I fish this river again I will tie some MUCH smaller midge imitations... Even though I caught fish, I still felt humbled by this river. The fish were not easy and I spooked most of the best ones. One fish left a wake big enough to make you think twice before wading again...
 . Anyway, thanks again Dan for showing me the river!!! Here's a couple of pictures from the day...

Sorry I didn't make it... I did have a good day with my wife though. I've got a pass for Sunday if you are going anywhere. How long did it take to get on the river from Knoxville? I still want to go sometime.

Hi,
Great post and super bow. Please can you tell us what wt. length etc rod for the area? Lines did you use a Float line, sink tip? Thanks for the post we really enjoy seeing someone do well. Bob

Kevin, it took right around 2 hours from Knoxville, maybe a little less.
Titeloop, I fished a 9 foot 5 weight rod with floating line all day. Flies that worked were zebra midges (#18-#22), CDC bwo emergers (#18-#20), and sulfur sparkle duns (#1  .

BIG Thanks to Plateau Angler for a great day on the SoHo! You are a Gentleman and a very welcome fishing companion! Thanks, too for not telling everyone how bad I fished in comparison!

Hi,
Man thanks for the info. I get down there about 4 or 5 times a year, I wish I had your luck and skill. Nothing even close to that unless you count stripes. Thanks again for the info. Bob

Bob,
Plateau is all SKILL!  Any luck he has he creates for himself... I've fished with him a few times and the guy is amazing. I know a little about stripes too. I'm a Master Sergeant in the Air Force. Imagine my dissapointment being stationed in Maryville. 8-) Hope to see you on the water one day!Kevin

Plateau,
That is a beautiful bow. I haven't fished the Soho is at least 7 or 8 years, need to get back up there. Amazing what some decent regs can do for a fishery capable of growing nice trout. Best, John
