Good looking flies there, those will catch a bunch of fish. As many as you tied, it looks like thats about all you'll be fishing... Not a bad choice either...

Don't forget Plateau, he hangs several in the trees as decoys! Reminds me of the Monte Pythons Flying Circus when all of the british tower gaurds where lining up to jump off of the building. Sacrificial little dudes.

I had pretty good luck with one I made last year, take the two favorite colors at LRO, pink and green and twist them before you run it up the length of the shank. Makes for a good looking fly! Have you named them yet!

Dannnnnnnng Griff, you've been busy! Good looking flies. I've tied some with orange glass bead heads and they work great up here for gills and smallies, but whey I tried them in the Smokies.....nada, zip, zilch.....gonna have to tie some regular green weenies for my park trips.......

Can't wait for the class in a few weeks, I have trouble with the finish and can't master the finishing tool I have (maybe I need to try a different one).

BTW....I am getting ready to order a Sage fly rod kit to spoil myself.....looks like you can save almost 50% by building yourself..........

Buckeye, I never (well, almost never...) use anything fancy to finish flies. Try using just 3-4 half hitches, making sure they are TIGHT, and a drop or so of Dave's Fleximent. This is all I use on mine and they seem to hold up just fine...

I just use a whip finisher and a drop or two of head cement. There are a couple of types of whip finishers, the Matarelli style and the Thompson style. I have both but have found the Matarelli style to be much easier for me. Which one do you have?

my whip finisher looks more like the Thompson in your pic.....not real fond of it, but that could be that I don't know how to use it.....if there is an easier one in the classes I will definately pick one up at LRO before I leave.....

P.A. I went to the 3/4 since I couldn't master the whip finisher I bought. I've not had any come undone, it just bugs me that I can't figure out tool I purchased........

Anybody that would use a Green Weenie to lure an unsuspecting Smoky Mountain wild trout is as low down as..... Can I borrow a couple, particularly if you do a couple with beadheads?

shoot griff, you and buckeye are going to whip me in that fly tying class! hey, are you guys going to bring your own tools? i know that LRO provides them for the class, but I thought about bringing the ones from the set I got just to get used to them. byron, daniel, whoever... can we bring our own tools?

PA, I'm with you on the half hitches. I have found that the whip finish is nice, but that 3 to 4 half hitches secured with head cement are quick and easy and also not bulky near the eye for those flies that are crowded at the front. I would recommend it for any one learning to tie. But, they will teach you the finish at the class and you can make your own decision from there.
