ttas67,

You should have asked me when you were in the store a little while ago. I have fished it but I think it's against the law to talk about it in public.

You need to get a permit which is free and can be done by mail or maybe online now. There is a fly shop in Harrisonburg that is very helpful and will send you in the right direction. There is a stretch that is managed by Trout Unlimited on private water that runs through pasture but the cattle, except for one or two crossings are fenced out. It is a Spring Creek but not nearly as technical as the Letort which I think you have fished. I was there once during terrestrial season, I think it was August. There are some huge Browns in there though I haven't caught one. I did catch a few nice browns. Access in that area is excellent. I wouldn't go there on a weekend, it will be too crowded.

Byron

byron, thanks for the reply. actually, I was meaning to ask you. after I left the store today, I remembered. I've seen pics of the stream and it looks like my kind of place. like a little babbling brook in a peaceful pasture. I love small water. I think it goes back to me fishing for blue gill in the little creeks growing up. but it just occured to me that mossy creek is right on the way to Pennsylvania and now I think I'm going to have to stop by there and check it out next time I go up there. I found the address of where to send off for the permit and will do it this week so I don't forget.

ttas67, would recommend the stream but as Byron states, stay away from it on the weekend. I had the best luck on a Tues/Wed of the week. It catches a lot of weekend traffic so it is still settling down on Mondays. Buffalo Creek is only about 45 minutes away too. You have to have a permit for it also but you can request both from the Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries office in Verona, VA. Their phone number is (540) 248-9360.

There is also a gentleman by the name of Jim Finn (sp?) that operates out of the Mossy Creek Fly Shop in Mt. Solon, VA. He or the shop can give you some directions for other streams in the area. The last phone number I had for the shop was (540) 350-4828.

If you go, make sure you are up with the stream regulations, such as limit size, type of hook, etc. While I appreciate the protection that the regs give, they often change in Virginia and the publications are usually only annual so go online to make sure you are up to date.
