Default regal vise

does anyone own, use or have any opinions on the regal vise? I'm looking to buy a mid priced vise and like the ease of use of this one. any input appreciated.

I have not used it but Dean was using the Regal when I took my first tying class. It looks like it will do a good job.

Default Got one :)

I have both the regal as well as a DK Barracuda. I personaly love the Regal for it's ease of use. I tend to use it over the barracuda on a regular basis becasue I like both it's ease of use and portability!

A Regal Inex (non-rotary) was the first decent vise that I had. I used it for a long time before upgrading to a Renzetti Master. The Regal actually holds hooks more securely than the Renzetti and without any adjustments. It is a great vise for the money and will handle any fly tying job.

thanks for the replies guys. I think when I upgrade, this is what I'll go with. now I'll just have to decide on clamp or pedestal.

Default Pedestal

Having used both extensively, I would definitely choose a pedestal. It can be moved around and doesn't really have any negatives in my opinion.

I looked at most of the $100 - $200 vises on the market last month while looking for a replacement for my old busted Herter's. I thought it would be the Regal or the Renzetti, but I ended up with a Peak. So far I'm happy with my choice. I got the pedestal model, fwiw.

Default Regal Vice

My trusty Regal rotary with bronze base is a foot away waiting for me to either put a #20 hook or 2/0 hook in it WITHOUT any adjustment at all. I love it, I have had it for about 16 years. Still as tight on the hook set as the day I bought it. Regals were the cadillacs until the Renzetti's became the sexy vice to have, because they made tying steamers easier.

hey Trevor.....no experience with the Regal vise here, just my old Griffith. But......yesterday I decided to take the jump and get my new vise. I really liked the dyna king we used in class and was very interested in the Peak that Griff was using ( actually torn between the two). Talked to Byron and Paula yesterday and decided on the Dyna King Barracuda Jr Trekker since I travel so much.....can't wait for it to get to my front door........good luck on your search. BTW, how is the whip finish via fingers going, any luck mastering that?

Oh yea, enjoy your western trip and bring back lots of pics
