This time of year the white bass in Fort Loudon absolutely feast on shad minnows in the shallows. Has anyone tried these guys on a fly rod?

Its been awhile, but I have caught them when they are crashing the bait balls as they move into the coves. I usually threw a black/silver #6 zonker or a white woolybugger. Never caught any big ones, but they are fun! Springtime on the river shoals are also a good time to target them.
