With the popularity of yellow dries to mtn trout, and the popularity of copper johns, I'm thinking why not combine the two? Does anyone know where I can find some yellow copper wire to tie these flies? Maybe yellow wire is already on the market and I just haven't noticed it b/c I haven't needed it, but I'm not sure that it is. Even if I can't find wire, what could I use as a substitute? Yellow dubbing with mono covering it?

Ultra Wire does come in Hot Yellow, not sure if they make a standard yellow.

Milligan,
We sell yellow wire and there are some patterns that use it. We stock several sizes. If you have a shop in your area they probably do to. I think a yellow Copper John might be the trick. Check the flies in our online catalog. I know of at least one that is tied using yellow wire. Here's two. http://littleriveroutfitters.com/sto...cat=940&page=4 http://littleriveroutfitters.com/sto...cat=940&page=4 Byron

Thanks Byron. I forgot about stonefly imitations using yellow wire. I'll have to pick some up. A couple more months and I'll be back home to make my tackle runs to your shop. Looking forward to it.

Ben, I have a huge yellow copper john that I use on occasion. it's a size 8 I believe. I only have one, and don't remember where or why I bought it. I've had this fly for about 2 years, and have used it on many occasions. it's indestructible, and very heavy. I've caught fish with this one fly on the soho, pulled a nice one out of the watauga w/ it. also caught fish in colorado on it.
