O.k....Here's the situation:
My Broght-in-Law, and I, my wife and my sister and maybe my 17 year old nephew are all going hiking/fishing for a day. What's a good trip that will take us on an easy trail, give us a good view and/or good fishing in decent water? We can by pass the view if we need to. Most of us are in poor to average shape lol. I'm thinking of something on the Tennessee side, but I'm open to the NC side as well as long as I don't have to drive over 2 hours. Thanks in advance! Also, I will be staying in Townsend so I'll start my drive from there.

My vote would be Abrams even though the drive through cades cove can kind of be a pain at times.

I guess we could do the short loop (1/4 mile up the trail) and meet the women folk back at the car about an hour and a half later? Is that about right? |

Getting to Abrams is the bigger problem. It seems you can never allow enough time to get from the picnic area to the trailhead parking lot because of all the sightseers.
I second the Elkmont recommendation. It's quite an experience. For something a bit more physically demanding, try the West Prong of the Little Pigeon just above Sugarlands, or anything up to the Chimneys trailhead and Road Prong... great visuals, limited hiking and fantastic fishing at the right time of the year. It would be a heck of a drive but I'd vote for Deep Creek in NC.

Thanks for all of the info. I'm going to pick two, maybe three and try them out! BRF |
