We have been teaching fly tying classes since 1994. All classes are taught by Walter Babb and Brian Courtney. We have a classroom set up just for this purpose with great lighting, comfortable chairs and all the tools and materials you will need for the day. We’ll even feed you lunch. Classes are offered in the Fall and Winter every year. Our curriculum focuses on fly tying for trout and we offer beginner, intermediate and advanced classes.
During a class you will learn to tie five patterns and you should leave with three flies of each. The techniques you learn will prepare you to tie additional patterns by simply changing the color of the materials.
Every fly is tied step by step and you will have a workbook with photos and instructions for each step. We wrote and photographed the workbooks to follow our simple methods of teaching you to tie. Our instructors will demonstrate the fly then they will help you through the process of tying your own.
All classes are held on Saturdays from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. The cost for the beginner class is $85. You will also get a free beginner book that we think is the best available for you which sells for $20. The Intermediate and Advanced classes cost $75. That fee includes a catered lunch.
Our Winter 2009 Schedule is as follows:
Call Toll Free 877-448-3474 to reserve your space. Each class is limited to 8 students. You will enjoy the day and become one of hundreds of people who got their start here at the Little River Outfitters School. And, don't worry, we can teach anyone to tie.
