May 14th through the 16th will be a special time in the Great Smokies and in Townsend, Tennessee. It is brought to you by the Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited. The event is Troutfest 2010. Volunteers from the Little River Chapter and other organizations have grouped together to form this event. Approximately 150 volunteers are involved. Planning has been and will continue to be diligent and redundant until that opening day. The Steering Committee has gone over and over the details. Seven years of experience brings new ideas and old to the table. Troutfest will be bigger and more complicated to manage than ever before. Thousands of square feet of tents will be erected. We have already reached tens of thousands of anglers by now.
Sponsors have stepped up to the plate. Money has been donated to pull this off. Vendors have committed to be here, lots of them, including national manufacturers, fly shops, guides, artists, food preparers, non-profit organizations and more. They will arrive from Baltimore to Dallas and from everywhere in between.
Prizes and auction items are coming in. Like last year the offering will be varied and unbelievable to attendees. Famous fly fishermen and writers are coming. Lefty Kreh will be at Troutfest all weekend. So will Bob Clouser and Joe Humphreys. You can finally meet Jim Casada. Reel maker Stan Bogdan will be here for you and he is bringing one of his prized, hand made reels to be auctioned Friday night. Wildlife artists, rod makers and fly tyers will be here for you on this 13 acre facility.
Trout Unlimited will be holding their Regional Meeting in Townsend during Troutfest. They have reserved 50 rooms for leaders and spouses. Chris Wood, President and CEO of Trout Unlimited is planning to attend so you can meet him.
Owners, management folks and sales representatives from fly fishing tackle manufacturers will be on hand, they wouldn’t miss it for anything. And the banquet held Friday night will probably sell out, all 400 tickets. This one is going to be amazing.
You will have the opportunity to meet the Superintendent of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and other Park Staff including the Fisheries Biologists, Steve Moore and Matt Kulp. You can attend free classes and seminars on Saturday and Sunday. Free Fly Casting Demonstrations and book signings by Lefty, Bob and Joe will be available each day. You can buy their books at the Troutfest Store. Admission to the Fly Fishing Exposition is Free. The banquet tickets cost $50 each. Free fly tying demonstrations will be ongoing all weekend. Did I mention almost everything is Free?
And while you are here, you will have the opportunity to fish 800 miles of Trout Streams in the Smokies at prime time (weather permitting). We have several excellent tailwater trout streams and lakes nearby. So, it might be advisable to make a week-long event out of this…for you.
So, how do you prepare? Visit www.troutfest.org first. There you will find out anything you want to know about Troutfest. We even have a page with links to all the motels, campgrounds, lodges and cabin rental companies. Choose one and make a reservation. If you want to attend the banquet you can buy the ticket online from this website. Want to know what the agenda is for the event? Everything will be posted prior to Troutfest.
Last year Troutfest cleared $34,634 on revenue of $59,360. This was the best income producing Troutfest so far. We held back $4,634 as seed money for this year, combined the balance with a $10,000 grant the Little River Chapter got from TU National and gave the Park and the Friends of the Smokies Fisheries Scholarship Endowment a total of $40,000. All the volunteers are very proud of that.
How can you help? Well, you can volunteer to work on the Troutfest Team. Just contact Ron Becker at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Ron is the Troutfest Volunteer Coordinator. If you have a special talent, let him know. You can become a Sponsor. Sponsors give cash to support Troutfest. If you want to be a sponsor contact me at email@example.com I am the Chairman of Troutfest. Or, contact Rufus King at firstname.lastname@example.org. Rufus is the President of the Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
So, don’t miss this one. Write down the dates and start planning like we have. You will have the time of your life.
