We have been teaching fly tying classes at Little River Outfitters for almost 18 years. We are serious about teaching you good solid skills while still making it fun for you. We have three different trout tying classes, beginner, intermediate and advanced. Walter Babb, Byron Begley and Brian Courtney have worked together to develop our step-by-step tying books and the class curriculum. By teaching these classes for the past 18 years, we have learned what works best.
All of our classes are held on Saturdays during the winter. Each class is limited to 8 students. They begin at 9:00 am. We have lunch catered in the classroom. Lunch is on us. You will usually finish the day between 4:00 to 5:00 pm.
The beginner class is for those who have never tied a fly or maybe you have had trouble trying to figure it out. In this class you will start at the very beginning. This class costs $85 for the day. Flies you will tie include the Green Weenie, Wooly Bugger, Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear, the Comparadun and the Elk Hair Caddis. You will probably tie three of each pattern.
The Intermediate Class takes you to the next step. This class costs $75 per day. The flies have more steps. They are harder to tie than the beginner flies. You will learn to tie the Prince Nymph, Light Cahill, Parachute Adams, Bead Head Pheasant Tail and the Yellow Stimulator.
The Advanced fly tying class teaches even more complex steps like spinning deer hair and making bodies from stripped peacock herl. This class costs $75 which includes lunch. You will learn to tie the Tellico Nymph, Parachute Blue Wing Olive, George Nymph, The Speck and the Quill Gordon.
