Orvis was founded in 1856. The rod shop, corporate offices and the "Flagship" retail store are still located in Manchester, Vermont. It has been family owned ever since, first by the Orvis family until the 1930’s. The company was purchased by Dudley Corkran in 1939 for $4,500. In 1965 Corkran sold the firm to Leigh Perkins. Leigh built the company to a large mail order business and was the man behind the innovative technology that changed fly fishing forever. Upon his retirement his sons Perk and David grew the company even more, including opening a large chain of Company Retail Stores. With the team of Perk, David, Tom Rosenbauer, Bill Reed, Jim LePage and many others, Orvis remains a huge player in the fly fishing industry, probably the largest.
We, at Little River Outfitters have a relationship with Orvis that goes beyond a vendor/manufacturer daily business partnership. Our company and Orvis have a more common thread. We are friends.
