My first really nice fly rod was an Orvis. I bought an Orvis CFO reel to match. I was so proud. Before that, I owned lesser rods. I could cast better with the Orvis. My confidence grew. I got more involved with other fly fishermen, and started going on fishing trips to Montana. The rest is history.
Fly rod technology has quickly moved forward since I began fly fishing in 1962. I noticed the changes every year, after getting into the fly fishing business in 1995. Orvis has always been on the cutting edge along with other fine fly rod companies.
Fly rods have become quicker and lighter. They are now more durable. The blanks are thinner. And they cast better than ever.
Orvis has always offered a selection for every budget. If you buy a lower priced rod, you are buying older technology. But, older technology does not mean you are not choosing a great fly rod. You may be buying the best there was just a few years ago.
The higher priced Orvis fly rods are made in America, at their rod shop in Manchester, Vermont. I have spent two days in that shop, watching every move those craftsmen made. Orvisí machinery is the best money can buy. They use the best carbon materials and components. Most of the people working there, have been with the company for a very long time. They seem to love their job.
I highly recommend investing in a fine Orvis rod. Pick one in your budget, and buy it. You will not regret purchasing an Orvis fly rod. I never have.
