Orvis has developed some super fly line technology over the years. Most important is their Wonderline coating. This technology improves the slickness of the line, keeps the line cleaner and they float higher thanks to the Wonderline coating.
There are new advances in the Orvis Fly Line lineup. In 2012 Orvis introduced the new Hydros 3D Series. It is a complete re-engineering of the structure of the fly line using new technology to attain unparalleled performance, including the Orvis exclusive Hydros 3D microtexture that significantly reduces friction, improves floatation and eliminates tangling. Every inch of the 3D has been engineered using new tapers, coatings, diameters, Hy-Flote Tip technology on the trout line, innovative new welded loops both front and back on the saltwater lines and IS slickness additives to create an entirely new generation of high-performance Orvis Fly Line.
Additionally Orvis has incorporated a new fly line identification system called ID. The marking on each line indicates the type of line, weight and taper.
The Hy-Flote Tip Technology lowers the specific gravity of the tip section as compared with current Wonderline and results in a higher and longer floating tip.
The Wonderline Coating has been improved for even slicker performance. These lines are slick and fly through your rod guides.
Welded Loops – These loops make attaching a leader and backing to your fly line easy. They also make casting easier by eliminating hinging. These welded loops float high to help keep your tip from sinking. The saltwater lines have an enhanced rear loop as well for attaching to the backing while being strong enough to hold large game fish without losing your fly line.
IS (Integrated Slickness) is an additive integrated throughout the PVC layer or lines not compatible with the Wonderline coating process such as the new 3D Hydros fly lines.
