Blue Wing Olive CDC Biot Comparadun
Beatis and other tiny insects in this family is a valuable food source for trout in many rivers and streams across the United States. This Blue Wing Olive CDC Biot Comparadun is an excellent dry fly imitation. This fly performs particularly well in slow smooth water when these insects are present. The materials and steps used to tie this fly make it a very realistic representation of the beatis or Blue Wing Olive.
The body is tied using a goose biot, giving it a realistic segmented appearance. This is most important when fishing slower moving water. The trout have more time to examine the fly. It appears realistic. Floatation is provided by the CDC wing. The fly floats in the surface film of the water making it an easy target for trout which are feeding on these adults.
We have this fly listed in our Smokies Winter and Spring collection because that is when you, and the trout will see these insects on the water most often in the Southern Appalachians. Blue Wing Olives are present in many river even during the Summer. We have several Blue Wing Olive flies in our Winter/Spring collections but this one is most important when the trout are picky about what they eat.
This is also an excellent tailwater fly in our region and across the Country where trout are very particular about presentation and prefer a realistic imitation.
