Bead Head Pheasant Tail
For many years, the Bead Head Pheasant Tail was our best selling nymph. It is still one of our best sellers today. This mayfly imitation mimics many nymphs you find in trout streams in the Eastern United States. The Bead Head Pheasant Tail is equally at home in the Southern Appalachians and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The fibers of the pheasant’s tail are mahogany brown and thin. The complete body of this fly is tied using pheasant tail fibers. Before beads became popular, the traditional American Pheasant Tail nymph was very popular in Eastern freestone trout streams. It still is.
We pick the Pheasant Tail or the Bead Head Pheasant Tail as one of the top five nymphs to use in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You must have this pattern in your fly box. This is a year-round fly.
