Copper John Nymph
The Copper John nymph was designed and tested by John Barr. The year Umpqua Feather Merchants introduced the Copper John, it was their best selling new fly. They sold extremely well all over the United States and the world. Anglers fished with the Copper John and had unbelievable results. The strength of the initial sale of this fly to the world did not weaken much over time. All new good flies don’t last forever. But this has it seems.
The Copper John is still a very popular fly. Our customers still buy a lot of them. The gold bead and copper wire body give the fly just enough weight that most angler do not use split shot for extra weight. The tail is made from goose biots, a different color than those used on the Prince Nymph, but goose works great for tails. Of course, like many good flies, peacock herl is a component. The Copper John has peacock herl.
The shell back is epoxy. Maybe that is one of the best components of the fly. Anyway, everything comes together in the Copper John, they catch fish year round and our customers buy them in large numbers. And that is why we strongly recommend this pattern.
