Blue Wing Olive Parachute Hi-Vis

The Blue Wing Olive Parachute Hi-Vis is the perfect dry fly for Winter and Early Spring fly fishing. At times, the small mayflies that resemble this little pattern are the only adults on the water. This is especially true during the cold months. You will also encounter these mayflies on the water during the early Spring along with other aquatic insects. Blue Wing Olives are often on the water and mating at the same time you will see Quill Gordons and Blue Quills.

Since these insects and the flies that represent them are small, from #16 to #20 here in the Great Smoky Mountains, they are also hard for the angler to see. This Hi-Vis (High Visibility) fly helps. The orange post can be seen by the angler, even in the smaller sizes.

An adult Blue Wing Olive is a very versatile fly because the aquatic insects represented by the pattern is present for many months. This is a fly you should always have in your fly box from the onset of Winter through the early Spring.
